🗒 The subject
Hajime had his body modified and machines implanted in his body to surpass human limitations. As the result, he possessed inhuman physical strength and reaction time.
As the first product of the experiment, his body was flawed and unstable. He was also engineered to prioritize performance over longevity to please the shareholders with no long term plan. When he’s about to expire Hope’s Peak would simply order him to create another Izuru to replace him.
The modifications put immense strain on his body so he avoid combat unless necessary. Although he could have removed the machines from his body, he chose not to. He was afraid of going back to being “normal.”
After class 77-B’s graduation, he vanished without a trace. Without maintenance, his body eventually broke and he spent a year fixing his body on his own.
🗒 Work
His superhuman intellect was the result of lobotomy and was not taxing on his body unlike his combat prowess, so he chose to take advantage of it. Hajime was assigned to be the head of the 4th Division, replacing Seiko Kimura. He focused on researches in the field he chose to specialize: neuroscience. He was also the lead researcher for the 7th Division, as neuroscience and therapy were deeply connected. The two Divisions were also currently share the same goal, to cure despair.
Hajime had several reasons on why he chose to become a neuroscientist:
He pushed himself because he hated feeling that the talents were being wasted on him. He had little organizational power and influence despite his position and importance in Future Foundation, due to his contract. Unlike Nagito, he was mostly bound to Future Foundation research facility so he rarely leave Jabberwock.

Charge 1: Interference with New World Program - 12 year contract with Future Foundation.
He’s aware that Future Foundation wanted to keep him for his abilities, so he negotiated an agreement to take on part of his friends’ contracts, reducing Kazuichi’s lifetime sentence and Mikan’s 40 years. As a result, he would remain with the Future Foundation until retirement.
Charge 2: Student council mass murder - Proven innocent.
Classroom 5-C, the classroom where the student council murder took place had been preserved like a time capsule, making it easy to gather evidence to prove his innocence.
The mail the Ultimate Despair created to frame him as the culprit behind the student council mass murder and as the subject of human experimentation had spread to public. Even after the tragedy ended, there were still conspiracy theories and people who doubted his innocence.
His identity was currently under the protection of Future Foundation, only the other survivors and a few high ranking officials knew his real identity.
🗒 Details: Kamukura Project
The experiment were led by Ultimate Neurologist and Ultimate Biomedical Engineer. There are several things the experiment did:
The first eight months were spent for brainwashing the subject, while surgically implanting the machines into their body one by one. They’ll let their body heal, ran experiments, monitor them, and made adjustments. Once their mind and body were deemed capable to contain the talents, they proceeded to the final step: lobotomy. The operation lasted less than a day, and afterward the subject finally became Izuru Kamukura.
🗒 Past Hajime vs Present Hajime
During Kamukura Project, Hajime’s original personality was erased through brainwashing, and a new one that was made to be capable to handle the implanted talents took place.
During the simulation, New World Program was only able to retrieve the version of Hajime’s personality that had been created during the experiment, as the original version no longer existed. However, New World Program managed to recover data of his memories, such his life experiences, memories of what were his likes and preferences, so Hajime in the simulation acted based on those memories.
The new personality would have to relearn himself. His memories tell him he like a thing or doing something, but his current self might felt nothing toward it anymore. He could’ve ended up liking the same thing, or learn to like, or liking something else entirely. The change in preference may explain his sudden attraction to Nagito. The start of the simulation was the point where he resembles the original self the most and diverge from there as the new personality would not develop the same way the original personality would have.
Though he’s bound to have the same preferences such as favourite food also got deleted, hajime’s tongue more receptive to sweet so he ended up liking sweets as much as his old self.

Hajime had no known surviving family member.
He resided in the dorms for Future Foundation workers in the 5th Island residential area. He had his own office in Future Foundation HQ and occasionally spend the night there.

🗒 Regarding Nagito’s health
Nagito collapsed on the boat during their return trip to Jabberwock. Years of untreated illness while living in despair had left his body in a terrible state.
He initially refused help, but he was forced to undergo treatment. After two months his condition showed no improvement. After seeing how serious Nagito’s condition had become, Hajime insisted on treating and monitor him personally despite his schedule.
🗒 Regarding Nagito’s sanity
During psychotic episodes, he showed a tendency to attack his own limbs. He severed his left arm as a Remnant, and did similar thing while executing his own murder in the New World Program.
He showed no signs of deteriorating or at leas had slowed significantly after he was put in Hajime’s care.
🗒 Regarding Nagito’s luck
It seemed Hajime’s luck can counterbalance his bad luck. His luck only acted up when he was apart from Hajime for a prolonged time.

After the long treatment Nagito was finally healthy enough to work for Future Foundation.
During the transition period, he was tasked with regular office work which he had no interest in doing. He then got assigned to the 5th Division with the impostor as his direct lead.
On the surface, Nagito formally served as a lobbyist and liaison for the Future Foundation, but behind the scenes, he worked as a spy, just like his former teacher who was also the former head of the 5th Division, Chisa.
His questionable morals made him a perfect fit to do dirty work. He didn't mind to use manipulation and coercion to get what he wanted. He would use the information from his espionage to blackmail his target.
He usually disguised himself as a janitor, but he’s also intelligent and sophisticated enough to fit in with the elites and high level politicians.
He and Impostor frequently travel for 2 weeks at a time, just enough for him to do biweekly checkup with Hajime. He called him often.
