🗒 The subject

FH1GGpsVEAALJfh.jpg

Hajime had his body modified to surpass human limitations. Being the first product of the experiment, his body is flawed and unstable.

He was also engineered to prioritize performance over longevity to please the shareholders without any long term plan.

When he’s about to expire Hope’s Peak would simply order him to create Izuru v2.0.

He has artificial organs and machines implanted in his body. As the result, he possesses inhuman physical strength, but it puts immense strain on his body so he avoids combat unless necessary.

Even though he has the option to remove them from his body he chose to keep them, as he is scared of going back to being “normal”.

🗒 Despair

After class 77-B graduation, he disappeared completely for two years. With no one to maintain his body he collapsed and spent one and half a year fixing his body by himself.

🗒 Past Hajime and Present Hajime

During Kamukura Project, Hajime’s original personality was completely erased through brainwashing, and a new one constructed based on his memories and personalities took place.

During the simulation, New World Program was only able to retrieve the version of Hajime’s personality that had been created during the experiment, as his original self no longer existed to be restored.

Even though the new personality was constructed based on his old self, it did not develop exactly the same way the original personality would have which may explain his sudden attraction to Nagito. The start of the simulation was the point where he resembles the original self the most and started to diverge from there.

Hajime’s original personality liked Chiaki, while present personality likes Nagito.

Even if Chiaki were alive, present version of Hajime would not love her the same way and would still be attracted to Nagito instead.

During Kamukura Project, Hajime’s original personality was completely erased through brainwashing, and a new personality took place. The new personality was constructed based on fragments of his memories and personalities while still able to withstand the weight of the talents. That personality was called “Izuru”.

During the simulation, New World Program only managed to retrieve “Izuru” before it was infected by despair, as his original self was no longer existed to be restored.

At the end of the simulation

Even though this new personality was constructed based on his old self, it did not develop exactly the same way the original personality would have. The start of the simulation was the point where he resembles the original self the most and started to diverge from there.

Differences:

🗒 Work

Hajime was assigned to be the head of the 4th Division, replacing Seiko Kimura. He focuses on researches in the field he chose to specialize: neuroscience. He is also the lead researcher for the 7th Division, as neuroscience and therapy are deeply connected. The two Divisions are also currently share the same goal, to cure despair.

Hajime has several reasons on why he chooses to become a neuroscientist.

To find a cure for despair, which he feels as his responsibility as a person who have all of the talent. To treat Nagito's illness, despite everything he really does care about him. To better understand himself. (See “Past Hajime and Present Hajime”) Or maybe Yasuke Matsuda, the Ultimate Neurologist, being the person do the experimentation on him simply influenced it.

He overworks himself because he doesn’t want to feel that the talents are wasted on him. Despite his position and importance in Future Foundation, he has little organizational power and influence because he has zero leverage due to his binding contract.

Unlike Nagito, he is mostly bound to Future Foundation headquarter and research facility so he doesn’t leave Jabberwock often.

🗒 Punishment and New Start

His punishment for injecting Junko's AI into New World Program is 12 years contract working exclusively under Future Foundation. He’s aware that Future Foundation is trying to keep him, so he was able to make agreement with them to take over some of his friends contract, to lessen Kazuichi’s lifetime and Mikan’s 40 years punishment. He will end up working for Future Foundation until retirement.

He has no known surviving family member.

He resides in the apartment for Future Foundation workers in 5th Island residential area. He has his own office in Future Foundation HQ and occasionally spends the night there.
